4 Indirect speech
Непрямая (косвенная) речь ( также называется "Reported speech").Предложениями с непрямой речью называются предложения, которые не прямо цитируют, а "пересказывают" чье-либо высказывание. (Ср.:"She said she would be home by eight o'clock. — Она сказала, что вернется домой к восьми часам".)а) Утвердительное предложение в непрямой речи обычно преобразуется в именное придаточное предложение, введенное союзом that (см. Nominal clause, 2a)."I'll help you," he said. (пр.) - He said that he would help us. (непр.) — Он сказал, что поможет нам.
б) Вопрос в непрямой речи вводится союзами if, whether, а также вопросительными словами (подробнее см. Indirect question)."Will you help us?" I asked him. (пр.) - I asked if he would help us. (непр.) — Я спросил, не поможет ли он нам.
в) Команда, просьба в непрямой речи обычно выражается инфинитивным оборотом (Infinitive clause); в более формальном стиле также именным придаточным предложением. Инфинитивный оборот обычно не употребляется после глаголов suggest и say."Please, help us!" I asked him. (пр.) - I asked him to help us. (непр.) — Я попросил его помочь нам.
"Be careful!" I said. (пр.) — I told him that he ought to be careful.(непр.) — Я сказал ему, чтобы он был осторожен.
2) Выбор временной формы глагола в непрямой речи зависит от того, в каком времени употреблен глагол, вводящий непрямую речь. Об этом см. подробнее в Sequence of tenses; Rules for using sequence of tenses.3) Другие преобразования, необходимые при введении непрямой речи.а) Местоимения, как и в русском языке, заменяются в соответствии со смыслом:"I can't see you," he said. (пр.) - He said he couldn't see me. (непр.) — Он сказал, что не видит меня.
б) Некоторые наречия также заменяются в соответствии со смыслом (в правой колонке приведены те, которые употребляются в непрямой речи вместо соответствующих наречий в левой):now — immediately; then
yesterday — the previous day; the day before
tomorrow — the following day; the next day
two days ago — two days before; two days earlier
next day — the next day; the following day
